On July 5th, the 3rd Wuhan University National Doctoral Colloquium on Library Science was held in our school. With the theme of Opportunities and Innovations in Library Science in the Digital and Intelligent Era, this colloquium was attended by Wei Lu, Vice President of Wuhan University, Chuanfu Chen, University Distinguished Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at Wuhan University, Ning Ding, Deputy Director of the Training Office of the Graduate School, and other guests. Xiaoguang Wang, Dean of the School, presided over the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Wei Lu pointed out that library science, as an interdisciplinary subject integrating public culture and information foundation, needs to adhere to the library industry under the guidance of AI technology and drive the innovative development of public culture with "wisdom and service". Jiuzhen Zhang, Professor and Director of the Department of Information Management of Peking University, emphasized that humanities and technology should complement each other. Technology should be integrated into the humanistic perspective as a tool to focus on solving major problems in practice. Chuanfu Chen stated that the development of libraries should be based on the mission of the cause, integrate professional practice, and systematically construct an industry system, so as to ensure the high-quality development of library undertakings through system guidance.

In the keynote report session, Huanwen Cheng, Professor at the School of Information Management of Sun Yat-sen University, proposed that in the era of AI, library science needs to strengthen strategic determination and disciplinary confidence, with world outlook guiding the direction, values upholding the stance, and outlook on life realizing values. Chao Chen, Researcher and Director of the Shanghai Library, shared the path and thoughts of the Shanghai Library in building a world-class research-oriented public library in line with national strategies. Dan Wu, Professor and Dean of the Undergraduate School of Wuhan University, introduced the latest research results of her team on "the improvement of AI literacy in human-intelligence interaction". Ping Wang, Professor and Associate Dean of our school, presided over this session.

In the round-table forum session, a special exchange session among industry leaders, educational experts, and graduate students was held. Jiuzhen Zhang, Chao Chen, Ping Ke (Professor at Nankai University), Hui Yan (Professor at Renmin University of China), Youming Dong (Director of Wuhan University Library), Zhipeng Wei (Professor at Lanzhou University), and teachers from the Department of Library Science of the School of Information Management of Wuhan University conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as "how the library discipline should respond to the national scientific and technological strategic needs" and "library talent training and industry ecological transformation in the AI era". Experts believed that students majoring in library science should not only deeply root themselves in local needs but also have a global perspective; they should not only master disciplinary and interdisciplinary methods but also adhere to humanistic care, so as to exert the social value and strategic contribution of the discipline in the new era. Congjing Ran, Professor and Director of the Department of Library Science of our school, presided over this session.

On the afternoon of July 5th, parallel sub-forum exchanges were held. The themes covered "high-quality development of libraries", "Informetric methods and knowledge discovery", "information resource construction and user service", "information behavior and data literacy", "ancient book collation and bibliography research", "AI and libraries", "public cultural services", "data elements and intellectual property rights", etc. Graduate students fully demonstrated their respective research results in their reports. Review experts put forward pertinent and specific guiding suggestions from aspects such as the problem awareness of the topic selection, the innovation of research methods, and academic norms and expression logic, which highlighted the value and functional orientation of the doctoral colloquium of "promoting learning through evaluation and promoting teaching through research".

At the closing ceremony, Congjing Ran made a summary speech and encouraged young scholars to firm their academic aspirations and contribute to library science and national cultural construction. Yi Chen, Associate Professor at our school, presided over the ceremony and announced the list of pre-accepted papers of the journals supporting the conference.

This colloquium closely focused on the frontier of disciplinary development and national strategic needs, adhered to the equal emphasis on theory and practice, and the integration of academia and industry, and fully demonstrated the solid academic literacy and strong sense of social responsibility of library scholars. Facing the high-quality development goal of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the library discipline needs to actively integrate into the construction process of a powerful country in science and technology, education, and culture. Library scholars should promote the theoretical innovation and practical application of the discipline with an open academic vision, rigorous academic norms, and innovative research paradigms, build a library discipline system with originality, contribution, and leadership, and promote the improvement of national cultural power.
